How to get status of reverse proxy connections to backend?

I haven't found any way to do this yet.  I want to see what reverse
proxy connections to the back end are doing.  We are not load
balancing.  I tried rebuilding with mod_proxy_balancer included so I
could look at the balancer manager, but it shows nothing of interest.
I set ProxyStatus to Full -- nothing.
