Allow page caching with mod_session_dbd enabled

We are using mod_session_dbd as part of our reverse proxy architecture but also need to allow browser caching. Currently the code is hard coded to force no caching but there is a ticket/patch to enable it [1]. I was wondering if anyone could look at that or if there is another solution?

The only reason we are using mod_session is to support form authentication.
