Because as a default it goes to the index.html file. 
Go to http://localhost/myfilename.html
where myfilename.html is the name of the file
you are trying to access
.

You can just put something inside the index.html file
and see if it shows.

 i went to the directory folder where apache group is installed and i added some information to the htdcos folder , and avery time im typing " localhost " im still geting the same message . nothing as changed !  i stii can't reach the local host . please i need your help
