It is able to retrieve the user, but it is not checking the password.

Have you checked if it is working when ran manually with ldapsearch? What happens if you put

        AuthBasicAuthoritative off
        AuthzLDAPAuthoritative off

Also increase the log level to debug and look for ldap messages in the logs, might help finding out what is actually failing.
