Makes sense. Any thoughts on the impact of switching away from an event based MPM and using mod_cgi instead of mod_cgi? If I understand you correctly, that doesn't have the issue?
If so, we likely need to update the error_log notes.
I've written something on my whiteboard about that, but ...
I'm happy to help test.  What's your concern more specifically?
