A quick
grep -r --exclude=*.{png,jpg,jpeg,flv,avi,swp,gif,sql,css,js,htm,html,xml,spc,tpl} --exclude=*cache* --exclude=sess_* --exclude-dir=sessions SetOutputFilter *
revealed the culprit .htaccess files.
