A userspace problem was due to the modifier used when you're creating a buffer but this check renders it as invalid modifier. Review patch 1 of this series and it will give you a good idea of a userspace bug that was caught using the check in this patch and fixed now. An easy way to figure out what exactly went wrong so to debug the kernel code and check which check returns false for the modifier check. That will tell you exactly what you are missing wrt the modifier.
