It turns out that the monitor does eventually show some output (after waiting several minutes), but the system never boots up to a normal login screen. Instead, I just keep seeing error messages. I've attached both good and bad log files. Curiously, it looks like X restarts at some point, because I get two Xorg.0.log files. I've attached both. bad.Xorg.0.log is the first bad one and Xorg.0.log is the second bad one. Steve
