There is no PCM named “spdif” at all: it isn’t in the list, and if I type it, I can’t play to it for a reason that looks a lot like it doesn’t exist. OK, then another possibility is a BIOS bug. BIOS declares the pin as HDMI incorrectly although it's a SPDIF.
