The only way at the moment to tell if you are dealing with this type of control from user-space is to look for a control of type SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_TYPE_BYTES that doesn't have SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_READ or SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_WRITE.
