To enable OSS emulation, load the snd-pcm-oss module. (This is done automatically by many distributions, but it's possible that CentOS has decided this would not be appropriate for an enterprise distribution.) ALSA devices are in /dev/snd/; but to list capture devices, run "arecord -l".
