Something may have changed:

folkert@oensoens:~$ aplaymidi -l
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:466:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: Permission denied
Cannot open sequencer - Permission denied

???

Otoh it now runs fine from what I've could test.
