If OSS is already obsoleted by ALSA, > why is OSS still maintained? The OSS API should be at least usable even OSS drivers are deprecated. Thus the emulation is still mandatory for certain time. Of course, the best would be that all apps support ALSA native API or good portable librarys that speak ALSA API.
