USB midi

I have recently (today) bought a Tascam US-144 USB Audio/Midi
interface. I can't get it working under linux and indeed it is the 122
that is supported :-)
My questions:
1) Is there a way to get it working?
2) Can I help anyone retrieve the relevant data to get it working?
Is it just a question of getting the right firmware?
3) Should I trade it in for an edirol device?
Thanks in advance
Immanuel
P.S.
