It's already a bad sign, but...

This is pretty bad.  Even the single-command communication (that
requires no IRQ) doesn't work between the HDA controller and codec
chips.  So, it can be a problem outside the sound driver itself.

Anyway, try ALSA-1.0.13rc1 driver.  It includes several fixes that
might influence on the behavior.
