- alsa-lib so that can use alsa-utils (see below)- alsa-utils so that you can set the mixer to sg more relevant   than muted sound...- alsa-firmware if your sound cards need a firmware- alsa-tools if your card need some specialized tool

alsa-oss may be needed to play with some odd applications or in orderto play while other apps are playing too on a card w/o hw mixer.I don't know for alsa-plugins
