Summary: Volume entirely too faint on 82801g ich7
Description:
I've seen this bug online many times with a resolution of upgrading to alsa
1.0.11, but I upgaded and am still having the issue.

I'm using an hp pavilion dv8000 laptop with built-in altec lansing
speakers.

Windows reports the soundcard as conexant high definition audio, linux as
82801g (ich7). I've tried setting every model I know in the
/etc/modprobe.d/sound file for the hda-intel driver and am still having a
lack of useful volume sliders. The key ones that I need are "pc speaker"
to turn it down cause its way too loud and "external amplifier" to turn up
the laptop's altec lansing speakers (sound volume is decent out of the
headphone jack).

Even with the volume all the way up (both master and pcm) I'm getting
sound thats almost too faint to hear.

There seems to be an OSS driver from Linuxant for this Conexant codec
(14f1):

http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/riptide/index.php

There is an interesting point at the feature-list:

1. OSS compatible. We are hoping that somebody with more time can turn
this code into a modern ALSA driver someday..

The licence is BSD-style so someone with experience might use this driver
as a point to start from.

I own a notebook with the 14f1 Codec and the Intel HDA chip, too. So if
someone wants to start some work on it I would be kind of glad. I can
offer some limited time for testing. Since I'm still a little bit confused
with all this different chip-, driver- and codec-stuff and I'm having some
exams in the near future I will not be able to "get into the driver
buisness" soon. But maybe later.

Greetings

I wrote teh folks at Linuxant Wednesday and they said it is possible that
they would write an asla driver as well.. in the future.

I guess if the OSS license is BSD, perhaps I know a few clever folks on
the Gentoo dev team that might look at it as well.

I'll try the headphone jack, but I suspect that it will be OK as it is
neither the PC Speaker (man that thing is loud) or the Altec AMP.

Nick
