I'm only given one out channel, Master, and one in channel, Mic, along
with Line and Capture. I cannot adjust the volume of the PC Speaker beep,
which is outrageously loud. From past experience with ALSA et al shouldn't
there be PCM and (since this supposedly supports S/PDIF with some special
jack) some other additional channels?

At any rate, this codec isn't detected/identified by the driver as
anything other than Generic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a completely unknown codec. The vendor code is also uknown.

Do you have any hardware details?

Also, try to compile --with-debug=detect option. Then hda_generic.c will
give you a bit more debug prints.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 legoguy - 03-26-06 23:09
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows recognizes it as some kind of Conexant chip, at least that's the
driver that's installed for it.

--with-debug=detect didn't seem to make any change at all, no more
messages than before :/

I'm supposed to be looking in dmesg for debugging messages correct? all I
get when I load the modules is:

ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1b.0[A] -> Link [LNKG] -> GSI 7 (level, low)
-> IRQ 7
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1b.0 to 64

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 04-20-06 15:39
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It should show more kernel messages but using KERN_DEBUG prefix. Check
/var/log/messages again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 legoguy - 05-16-06 18:04
----------------------------------------------------------------------
`grep KERN_DEBUG /var/log/messages`
produces nothing, is there some option I need to enable elsewhere for
debugging to actually work? Right now I'm compiling the drivers with
--with-debug=full and I get nothing.

Note that this chip also works properly in OS X with the Azalia drivers
(once some PCI IDs are fiddled with), that might help here too... and
although this chip does work as a generic codec now, the maximum volume is
terribly low, not even close to what the Windows or OS X drivers can
output...

Additionally, mic in appears not to work, though I need to give it some
more thorough testing..

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 05-18-06 11:40
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, KERN_DEBUG prefix itself won't appear in the message. It's a
log-level. Compile with --with-debug=detect, as I asked.

Ah, alright, just had to set the logging level higher. Here.
