http://www.wqad.com/news/wqad-plane-diverted-quad-city-airport-060409,0,324= 8241.story Electrical failure lands national flight in Quad City International Airport Kim Boomer Web Journalist 12:08 PM CDT, June 4, 2009 MOLINE, Illinois United Express passengers traveling from Pittsburgh to Denver made an unscheduled stop in Moline Thursday morning, after the crew of Flight 7559 reported smelling smoke in the plane's cabin. The Embraer 175 aircraft was 35-40 miles west of the Quad Cities when it started experiencing problems, including an electrical failure. That prompted the plane to radio an emergency call at 8:55am and it was diverted to the Quad City International Airport in Moline. It landed safely at 9:05am and the passengers on board were carted using airport vans from the plane to the terminal. The aircraft can hold nearly 90 passengers. Quad City International Airport Director Bruce Carter says there were 67 passengers on Thursday's flight, as well as two flight attendants, a pilot, and a co-pilot. The plane remains on the tarmac at the airport in Moline, as mechanics from United Express are on their way to make repairs. Passengers are now trying to find ways to reach Denver through flights out of Moline. Some passengers may also be transported to Peoria, Illinois, to find other flights to their destinations.
