A small, singe-engine plane crashed in Holy Cross Cemetery around 2:30
p.m. Sunday just south of the Bert Mooney Airport in Butte.

The Associated Press is reporting that 17 people have died.

The plane may have been carrying several young children who may have
been heading for a ski vacation.

=A0Butte-Silver Bow County Coroner Lee Labreche has been called out. It
is unknown if anyone on the ground was injured.

The plane was en route to Butte from Oroville, Calif., officials said.
It is a Pilatus PC12 leased from Eagle Leasing of California.

An eyewitness to the crash told The Montana Standard the plane was
doing steep angle turns and then went into nose dive.

"All of a sudden the pilot lost control and went into a nosedive,"
said Kenny Gulick, 14, of 2800 Meadowlark Lane on the east side of the
aiport. "He couldn't pull out in time and crashed into the trees of
the cemetery," Gulick said.

Gulick is a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Butte, a trainer program
for pilots. "It looked like a stunt plane," he said. He and his family
were barbequing at the time of the crash.

A press conference at the airport is upcoming.

Traffic along Harrison Avenue south of Walmart has been rerouted,
though one lane of nortbound traffic has been opened to accommodate
the heavy traffic near the crash site.

=A0Butte-Silver Bow sheriff's deputies, Montana Highway Patrolmen and
other fire and safety personnel have closed off the cemetery.

The Federal Aviation Administration and MTSB personnel are en route to
the crash site.
