Emad Salam, Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority chairman, said the plane caught fire as it was preparing to leave Luxor airport, where it had stopped to refuel, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, reported. Salam said firefighters battled the blaze but were unable to save the crew members.
