http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/02/airport_navigational_tool_work.html Airport navigational tool working again by Suzanne Pardington, The Oregonian Sunday February 01, 2009, 4:35 PM A navigational aid that caused dozens of flights to be diverted or canceled at Portland International Airport last night and this morning is working and ready for use if it gets foggy again tonight. Port of Portland spokesman Josh Thomas said the Federal Aviation Administration tested the system today and found no problems, despite reports from pilots of some strange readings last night. The tool helps pilots know whether their approach to the runway is on target and properly aligned based on a system of runway lights. The FAA took the navigational tool offline around 10 p.m. Saturday as a precaution, Thomas said. Without the tool, fog prevented 18 flights from landing and canceled 26 other flights. Diverted flights landed in Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, Spokane and Eugene. Passengers who landed in Seattle and Eugene were bused to Portland. Planes got back on schedule after the fog lifted at about 7 a.m., Thomas said. -- Suzanne Pardington; spardington@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you wish to unsubscribe from the AIRLINE List, please send an E-mail to: "listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".
