The island's two airports, the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James reopened their doors yesterday afternoon after shutting down Thursday as a result of Gustav.

The Norman Manley airport opened at 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, while Sangster opened approximately at noon.

Earl Richards, spokesperson for the Kingston-based airport, told The Gleaner that the facility was open for business, but advised passengers to contact their airlines for confirmation on departing flights before making their way to the airport.

"There isn't so much traffic in the airport at this time," said Richards, shortly after opening the facility.

The first flight arrived at the airport approximately 20 minutes after opening.

Delta first to arrive

A Delta Airline flight from Atlanta was the first to arrive at the Montego Bay-based airport shortly after it reopened.

Elizabeth Scotton, spokesperson for the airport, encouraged passengers to check its website to confirm departure and arrival times.

She also advised them to call their airlines to confirm if and when their flights will depart the airport.
