Plane crashes into home

REVIEW-JOURNAL

A plane crashed into this house in the 2800 block of North Jones Boulevard this afternoon shortly after taking off from the North Las Vegas Airport.

The FAA believes only the pilot was on board a Piper Navajo twin-engine airplane that crashed into a house on Jones Boulevard south of Cheyenne Avenue.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the plane had departed from the North Las Vegas Airport and was heading to Palo Alto, Calif., when the pilot reported engine problems. He tried to return to the airport but crashed into a house a half mile short of Runway 7. Some 900 customers are without power.

A lockdown has been lifted on area schools.

Two construction workers working nearby said they saw the plane heading west when it flew into power lines, which swayed. Then they heard an explosion and saw a column of smoke.

Firefighters are at the scene.

On Friday, an experimental aircraft crashed into a house near the North Las Vegas Airport, killing the pilot and two on the ground.
