(AP) -- Travelers heading home on the morning after Christmas faced delays as so= me flights heading to Detroit were held at their originating airports because of fog. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a "ground stop" for flights heading to Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus in order to reduce arriving flight congestion over the foggy airport, airport spokesman Scott Wintner said. Arrival delays of 15 minutes or less were being reported at the airport. The ground stop did not mean all Detroit-bound flights were delayed. It did not apply to flights already in the air, and FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said individual airlines could decide if planes with updated navigational equipment could leave at their scheduled times. "Ground stops depend on the weather, runway conditions, a variety of things," Cory said. "Unless you have this equipment that can navigate through that fog, we're going to wait until the fog breaks to bring you in safely." Elsewhere, rain as causing delays in Texas at Dallas-Fort Worth International and at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the FAA said. ___ On the Net: FAA: www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/usmap.jsp ----------------------------------= ------------------------------------ Copyright 2007 AP <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you wish to unsubscribe from the AIRLINE List, please send an E-mail to: "listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".
