The carrier followed American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which increased fares by the same amount one week ago due to surging crude oil and jet fuel prices. The United surcharge was effective Thursday and is for travel within 49 states, excluding Hawaii. The airline said that every dollar increase in the price of crude oil increases United's annual costs by $65 million. Crude oil prices have soared 42 percent since August and closed Thursday at $95.46 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. -----------------------------------------= ----------------------------- Copyright 2007 SF Chronicle <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you wish to unsubscribe from the AIRLINE List, please send an E-mail to: "listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".
