enter while an Aircraft Recycling Corporation worker was attempting to dism=
antle the aircraft for scrap metal Monday, an airport spokesman said.=0A=0A=
The aircraft caught fire around 12:30 p.m., on one of the RIAC's runways, R=
IAC Spokesman Dennis B. Ybarra said. =0A=0AThe fire started because of left=
 over fuel or vapors in the right wing of the plane, he said.=0A=0ARoswell =
Fire Department Division Chief Ruben Sanchez said air traffic controllers s=
potted the fire from the tower then called central dispatch. Fire fighters =
put the fire out within five minutes.=0A=0A"The worker was tearing down the=
 737," Sanchez said. "It is a rare incident that happened at the RIAC. Fort=
unately, he was not injured. The worker was cutting away the wing because t=
he plane was being scrapped for the metal."=0A=0ASanchez said only the fuse=
lage and right wing caught fire - the rest of the plane remains intact and =
salvageable.=0A=0AHe said the ARC worker was not injured. =0A=0AARC is a na=
tional aircraft removal corporation that stripes all the metal from unwante=
d airplanes then recycles the metal by melting down the aluminum metals to =
be manufactured into new products, according to their web site.=0A=0AARC re=
presentatives were unavailable for comment at press time.=0A=0AStewart Indu=
stries International spokesman Ben Redman said Stewart Industries sold the =
plane to ARC after Stewart had stripped the plane of any reusable parts.=0A=
=0A"We sold it to them for aluminum products," Redman said. "We are in the =
business of stripping unwanted planes of its reusable parts. We are a leadi=
ng aviation spare parts supplier in the heavy jet industry."
