According to airport spokesman Nelson Bailes, the plane, a Delta connector flight carrying passengers from St. Louis to Cincinnati, had 54 people aboard. The pilot declared an emergency after the cockpit began filling wth smoke and sought permission to land in Evansville, Bailes said. The plane landed safely shortly after 5:30 p.m. Bailes said the passengers and crew all got off the plane safely and efforts were underway to arrange for another flight to take the passengers on to Cincinnati.
