Senate committee blocks foreign control of airlines CO today released the following statement from Jeff in response to the Sena= te Appropriations Committee vote on the Transportation, Treasury, Housing a= nd Urban Development Appropriations bill for FY 2007: =E2=80=9CContinental welcomes the Senate Appropriations Committee=E2=80=99s= action to block the Department of Transportation from implementing its fla= wed rulemaking on foreign control of U.S. airlines. =E2=80=9CToday the Senate Appropriations Committee voted three to one to pr= ohibit the Department of Transportation from using appropriated funds to fi= nalize or implement its proposed rulemaking on foreign control, just as the= House did, voting two to one, in June. =E2=80=9CBoth the Senate and the House have expressed strong bipartisan opp= osition to DOT=E2=80=99s rulemaking proposal, which would unlawfully give f= oreign investors the right to control U.S. airlines.
