Small Fire at Kennedy Airport, No Injuries

   (06-13) 07:53 PDT New York (AP) --

A small fire broke out early Tuesday in the basement of an airline
terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport. There were no injuries, and the fire
was almost completely extinguished by a sprinkler system, an airport
spokesman said.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. in a storage room in the basement of t=
he
JetBlue terminal.

While it produced a good amount of smoke in the immediate area, there we=
re
no disruptions to air traffic and no evacuations, said Alan Hicks, a
spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs
the region's airports.

JetBlue spokesman Todd Burke said the room contained rain gear for the
ground crew.

Low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. is based in Forest Hills, Queens.=
