Actually, Wright was put in by an otherwise pretty decent Congressman named 
Jim Wright in order to protect the interests of his Fort Worth constituency.  
There was never a plan to bulldoze DAL, only the idea to use the law of 
contracts to get everyone to move over to DFW and close it to commercial traffic.  WN 
decided against moving and was supported by the Supreme Court in their 
decision.  The support wasn't there in Congress to close the facility outright, 
particularly with a tenant still there.  As far as Denver goes, that airport 
benefited everyone involved because of the sheer mess that was Stapleton.  They 
were able to get every carrier to sign on to the move to DIA because everyone 
wanted to move.
