This story was sent to you by: Bill Hough -------------------- Airports will add 'invisible fence' to security measures -------------------- By Chuck Bennett amNewYork Staff Writer March 8, 2006 Newark, Kennedy and LaGuardia airports have taken a cue from war-torn Baghdad International Airport and installed hi-tech "invisible fencing." Designed by defense contractor Raytheon Co., the new $140 million Perimeter Intrusion Detection System is supposed to blanket the airports with radar, infrared imaging, motion detectors, and surveillance cameras. The contract was finalized in January but the Port Authority, the bi-state agency that runs the airports, didn't announce it until Tuesday. The system, already in use in Baghdad and Israel, will detect human intruders attempting to sneak into the airports. At JFK and LaGuardia airports, a particular focus will be on detecting intruders approaching on water.
