Kenya Airways to Buy Six 787s From Boeing

   (03-07) 13:51 PST NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) --

Kenya Airways has agreed to buy six Boeing 787 passenger jets, replacing
its older 767s with the new long-range, more fuel-efficient planes.

The deal, announced Monday, is worth about $878 million at list prices,
though airlines typically negotiate discounts.

The growing carrier, which recently added several routes, said it will
take delivery of its first 787 in 2010 and four the following year. Now
under development, the 787 is scheduled to enter commercial service in
2008.

Boeing has promised the jet will use 20 percent less fuel and offer up to
45 percent more cargo capacity than airplanes of comparable size today. It
will carry 200 to 300 passengers on routes of roughly 4,030 to 9,780
miles.

Its design includes wider seats and aisles, larger windows and a
ventilation system that will allow for higher humidity, all of which
Boeing says will make the cabin feel more comfortable.

Chicago-based Boeing, which builds most of its commercial jets in the
Seattle area, said Kenya Airways was the 28th customer to order the 787.
To date, Boeing said it has received 297 firm orders for the 787 plus 88
commitments, orders that have yet to be completed.

Kenya Airways serves more than 2 million passengers annually. It flies to
London and Amsterdam, and select cities in Asia, including Bombay, Dubai,
Hong Kong and Bangkok. ----------------------------------------------------=
