Bombardier Cancels Jet Project

   (01-31) 07:55 PST MONTREAL, Canada (AP) --

Canadian airline maker Bombardier Inc. announced Tuesday that it is
scrapping plans to produce a new intercontinental jet aircraft.

The Montreal aircraft maker blames poor market conditions on its decision
to shelve the $2.1 billion project, called the CSeries.

Bombardier says it will shift resources from development of the CSeries =
to
regional jet and turboprop planes, serving the 80- to 100-seat aircraft
market.

Bombardier CEO Pierre Beaudoin said it is the "correct business decision
given today's market dynamics."

The new jet series has been under development for some time with generous
support from the Canadian, Quebec and British governments. It aimed to
produce two aircraft models seating between 110 and 130 passengers. -------=
