Northwest Airlines joins Delta in filing for Chapter 11 (NWAC, DAL)
By Carolyn Pritchard

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Northwest Airlines Corp. (NWAC
<http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/quotes.asp?symb=NWAC&siteid=mktw>)
after Wednesday's closing bell filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection. Northwest disclosed Tuesday that it missed $42 million in
payments; a $65 million pension payment is due Thursday, which would
have resulted in a penalty unless the airline declared bankruptcy. Delta
Air Lines (DAL
<http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/quotes.asp?symb=DAL&siteid=mktw>)
also filed for Chapter 11 after the closing bell.
