That was called "Interchanging" and happened quite a bit in the 50's and
early 60's.  Examples included Braniff and Pan Am from the northeast to the
west coast of South America, flights between the southeast and the northwest
(Eastern and United or Continental?), and Pan Am and Delta between the south
and London.

I remember somethig when one carrier would operate
to a certain city and the another carrier
would fly to their  city
I know American and Continental had some type of
agreemnt
Like say AA would fly their aircraft say to Denver
then Continental would fly that same aircraft to
say Seattle.. what is that called then?
