It was Pan Am Stratocruiser N90943.  See

Trivia:  In Hawaii there is a navigational aid and an airport code
memorlizing the pilot of N90943.
Identify the airport, the type of navigational aid, and the code used.

I remember a ditching of a Pan AM flight from
Honolulu to either LAX or SFO
it was probably a dc 6 or 7
and they had to ditch because I think 2 of the engines
died on them but they were in luck as the coast
guard had a weather ship in the area and they ditched
near the coast guard ship
(I remember because I think they made a movie out of
it
or it was one of those You were there new segments
