While San Francisco International and Oakland International's overall passenger traffic is now above pre-Sept. 11, 2001 numbers, San Jose remains about 15 percent below those heady days. More recent numbers are even gloomier, with passenger traffic down 0.02 percent in June as 1.01 million passengers flying either in or out of San Jose. Over the first six months of 2005, passenger traffic is down 0.9 percent, with 5.31 million passengers using Mineta San Jose. Meanwhile, domestic cargo traffic is down 14.4 percent, with 17.65 million tons going through Mineta San Jose in June, down from 20.63 million in June 2004. Overall, cargo traffic is down 11.9 percent for the first six months of 2005 with 105.57 million tons compared to 119.86 in the first six months of 2004. Silicon Valley's high-tech companies -- the life-blood of Mineta San Jose -- continue to limit employee travel.
