The actual fares are low, the taxes are high.
The lowest I found roundtrip on Southwest going to OAK, with one stop, was $270.30. The fare itself was only $221.40. The taxes are $48.90 (22.1% of the fare).

I found a fare for United of $209.30, connecting in LAX to SFO, of which the taxes were $51.16 (32.4% of the actual fare of $158.14).

Just think of all the great airport security and hassle-free airports we are getting with our taxes!
