Thursday January 6, 6:50 PM EST

SEATTLE (Dow Jones)--Boeing Co. (BA) expects to increase airplane production in 2005 and 2006 due to stronger demand, though the company missed 2004 expectations on orders for its 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft.

In a press release Thursday, Boeing said it plans to increase production in 2005 to 320 airplanes, with further increases expected in 2006.

As reported Wednesday, Boeing delivered 285 commercial airplanes in 2004, meeting its expectations, though likely falling short of rival Airbus.

Boeing's net orders increased 14% in 2004 to 272 from 239 in 2003, reflecting improving conditions in the commercial aviation market.

Meanwhile, Boeing logged a total of 126 customer-announced orders and commitments for the Dreamliner in 2004, below its projection of 200.

Shares of Boeing changed hands at $50.67 in after-hours trading after closing Thursday at $50.48.
