American, United, Continental Airlines Match Delta's New SimpliFares,
With a Twist, Says Bestfares.com

Thursday January 6, 12:42 pm ET

ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American, Continental and
United airlines joined Delta today in matching its SimpliFares program
in select markets. US Airways and Northwest matched in select markets
Wednesday.

"As we forecasted yesterday, it took less than 24 hours for the five
remaining legacy carriers to match Delta's moves," says Tom Parsons, CEO
of Bestfares.com, an internet travel site. "It's a match that has a twist."

Delta has placed a maximum cap of $499 one-way on any seat, including
last available. American has placed a maximum cap of $699 one-way.
United, Continental, Northwest and US Airways have not placed any caps
on their one- way or roundtrip airfares.

The carriers matched Delta on about 90 percent of the routes with which
they compete. Most major airlines have matched only the routes served by
Delta, and most major airlines have also elected as of this time not to
match Delta's SimpliFares where they include a hub of one of the other 5
major airlines, including their own hubs.

The lone exception is American Airlines, which has matched Delta on
about 80 percent of their competing routes, including three of its major
hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago and St. Louis. American elected not
to match in Miami, where it is currently testing its own pricing program.

"It's just a matter of time before the major airlines get their houses
back in order," says Parsons. "It's a major restructuring. Now, we just
need to wait until the dust clears to see who's still standing."
