Re: [Sky-1] More issues on new TSA rule

First problem -- actually this sounds like a great idea to match the photo at the flight school with the one on record with INS.

Second problem -- again, matching the data is key to knowing who is who.

Third problem -- well some may say it is time to charge for American intellectual property. It's an "entry fee." If a student cant pay it, there's training available around the world.

I would however state that flight instructors who have been counting on foreign students as a stable source of revenue probably need to revisit their business models. Sure, you could see other countries attracting potential students who would have otherwise trained in the US.

But I don't think the average voter is going to have a problem with that.

My first problem:
------------------

Now, flight instructors and flying schools are turning to a place where we
perform the duties of immigration officials.

How so? Well, now we have to take pictures of the candidates and upload them
on TSA website. The people who are resident aliens, like myself, or people
who are here on visa have their photographs taken in multiple places such as
US Embassy in their respective country, during the "Green Card" process and
while entering USA.

So, TSA cannot go and get that picture from the government agency, but they
want US flight instructors to take pictures and upload them on their
website.

They have some strict guidelines about how to take the picture, etc. as
well.

My second problem:
------------------

Finger printing process. TSA also wants these people finger printed. Once
again, the people that TSA looks at have already been finger printed in
US Embassy, during Green Card process, while entering USA.. Also, some CFI
friends reported that local law enforcement REFUSES to get the candidates
fingerprinter because TSA didn't like the way it was done by the local
police.

My third problem:
-----------------
This is from the TSA site..
"The flight training candidate must complete a training request and pay the
processing fee for each course or instance of training he/she wishes to
attend, even if the training is with the same flight training provider."

The English version of this is "If a flight training candidate gets his
private pilot and wants to go for instrument training then he/she will have
to go through this paper work ALL OVER AGAIN". Let's see for a candidate
that wants to go for a "career training" that's 7 different processes.
1. Private pilot
2. Instrument rating
3. Commercial pilot
4. Multi engine rating
5. CFI
6. CFII
7. MEI

7 * $130 = $910 just for the paperwork. Not to mention the man hour that
this process will take..

My fourth problem:
------------------

TSA assumes that all the flight schools have access to internet, equipment
good enough to take care of digital photography, keep these things in
records for 5 years, etc.

MY BIGGEST PROBLEM:
===================

TSA is fine and dandy with whoever shows me a US passport! Well, if the
terrorist is from outside of the country wanting to do us a harm, TSA
ASSUMES THAT THEY CANNOT FAKE A US PASSPORT. If the terrorist is someone
like Tim McVeigh, or like the teenagers who slammed a C172 into an office
building in SoFla, then what do we do??????

I am having enough headaches from this stupid rule and the way that people
THINK that TSA is protecting us..
