Not correct at MIA. All gates are unleased and assigned by the airport and
the airlines pay on a per use basis with the fees based on aircraft size. New
terminals are built using airport bonds with the airline(s) involved paying a
drop in the bucket extra for special features that only they can use. The
last leased gates at MIA disappeared when Eastern died in January 1991.

This policy of unleased gates yields more money for the airport over the long
term, allows new entrant carriers equal access to gates and facilities, and
results in a higher bond rating by the bond underwriters.
