Northwest flight turns back after wing slat falls off in midair

   (10-12) 15:47 PDT MINNEAPOLIS (AP) --
A Northwest Airlines flight turned around partway into a flight from
Minneapolis to San Francisco after part of one of the plane's wings flew
off.
Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch said the Boeing 757 carrying 179
passengers lost a wing slat, a moving piece on the front of the wing,
during a flight Monday. Ebenhoch said the plane turned around and returned
to Minneapolis, where Ebenhoch said it landed without incident.
Passengers boarded a different plane and continued to San Francisco.
He said the plane that lost a piece of its wing was being repaired.
