Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch said the Boeing 757 carrying 179 passengers lost a wing slat, a moving piece on the front of the wing, during a flight Monday. Ebenhoch said the plane turned around and returned to Minneapolis, where Ebenhoch said it landed without incident. Passengers boarded a different plane and continued to San Francisco.
