Ground Support Equipment - Engineering Wheel Design/ Selection

AIRLINE:

Hello, all!

I'm writing another story for GSE Today
(www.gsetoday.com) on the wheels used in
airport/airline ground support equipment.

I am asking for users and experts for their
experiences noting which type of wheels on say, an air
start, or GPU, or water cart and which work the best.
For example, in my experience at America West, they
had baggage carts that employed hard-plastic wheels
and inflatable rubber wheels. I believe the rubber
offered a smoother ride, but would render the cart
useless if a tire was deflated by a nail or spike on
the ramp. Yet, if I worked with equipment in an area
that might be constantly wet, or have a wet chemical
that coated the floor, I might argue that a hard
plastic or metal wheel might be better.

Am I making my point clearly? Any comments will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Burris
