Re: Boeing AND Airbus

As I sit here in the hole known as DFW gazing across the west field,
it's hard not to be impressed by Airbus and Boeing (and the Embraer
and Bombardier in front of me.)

Both Airbus and Boeing have a product that has a wingspan of less than
100 ft, and can take off from a fairly small field, travel 2,500 miles
and land. With 100+ passengers... and cargo. To my grandfathers
generation, it's impressive.

Never mind the future derivatives of the A330 and 777. Within a few
years, 'we' will have a commercial plane that can take off from any
airport in the world, fly to any other airport in the world and land.
Airbus nearly achieved that with an A330 delivery last year that I
think did about 11,000 miles in one hop.

(Though I think both Boeing and Airbus, and Bombardier AND Embraer all
receive forms of government assistance in some form or another. But all
is fair in love and war.)
