Thursday September 16, 2:00 PM EDT

ATLANTA (Dow Jones)--Delta Air Lines Inc.(DAL) formed a marketing partnership with Alaska Air Group Inc.'s (ALK) Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air units.

In a press release Thursday, Delta said the carriers agreed to share flight codes and to start offering lounge and frequent-flyer benefits for each other's customers.

The carriers also plan to discuss other areas of cooperation, such as air logistics and expanded cooperation with facilities and passenger handling programs.

Alaska Air confirmed the code-sharing deal in a separate press release.

The agreements, subject to Department of Transportation review, also requires approval from the pilots' union at Delta.

Delta said the deal provides passengers at the three carriers with greater access to destinations throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

On Wednesday, Deloitte & Touche LLP issued a notice to Delta questioning the carrier's ability to continue as a going concern. The auditor cited Delta's recurring losses, labor problems and liquidity issues.

Delta seeks to exchange up to $680 million of newly-issued senior secured notes to holders of $2.2 billion of its unsecured debt and $471 million of three junior classes of enhanced equipment trust certificates.
