That's exactly where online systems fail -- finding fares "in the middle" of the super-cheap-to-ripoff-scale fares.

Don't you all think that buying tickets at the airport or through the
airline's reservation phone system is over. Here are few instances I exactly
did that:

- I had some UAL certs of $20 to $50 from refunds. I needed to buy a new
ticket using these, no way you can do this online.

- Mom had to travel back to Turkey and wanted to upgrade her using my miles
on DL. Their website doesn't allow you to do that...

- Had a FTA (Future Travel Award) through a United because I volunteered to
give up my seat... There is no way you can do that online.

not available through UAL's website. So I had to call their 1K desk. (Did
these maybe 10 times over 6 months).

- Had to return a fully refundable round trip ticket... It's not possible to
do it online...

As you can see, no matter how much you try to believe that buying online is
THE way to go, you can never avoid having personnel at the ticket counter.

At least UAL hasn't jumped on this bandwagon... yet...
