The world's second biggest airline by market capitalization said it fill= ed 78 percent of total passenger seats, down from 78.6 percent a year ago. It also filled 62.8 percent of cargo capacity, down from 65.7 percent a year earlier. Most major airlines have recovered from weak travel demand in the April-June quarter of 2003 following the SARS outbreak. However, they are now threatened by escalating oil prices. In May, Singapore Airlines joined other major airlines in adding a fuel surcharge on tickets to offset rising fuel costs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2004 AP
