Singapore Airlines capacity marginally down on-year in July

   (08-16) 05:41 PDT SINGAPORE (AP) --
Singapore Airlines said Monday its cargo and passenger capacity rates fe=
ll
in July from the same month a year ago when it staged a strong rebound
from the after-effects of the SARS virus.
The world's second biggest airline by market capitalization said it fill=
ed
78 percent of total passenger seats, down from 78.6 percent a year ago. It
also filled 62.8 percent of cargo capacity, down from 65.7 percent a year
earlier.
Most major airlines have recovered from weak travel demand in the
April-June quarter of 2003 following the SARS outbreak. However, they are
now threatened by escalating oil prices.
In May, Singapore Airlines joined other major airlines in adding a fuel
surcharge on tickets to offset rising fuel costs.
