The Air Route Traffic Control Centers are divided into blocks of airspace. Each block is called a sector. Each sector will have both vertical and horizantal airspace limits. Each block of airspace can physically only contain a certain number of aircraft. When this number is being exceeded restrictions are placed on the number of aircraft able to enter the airspace (Sector). I would imagine an increase in normal traffic is being experience due to the fires out west. Tried to keep it as simple as possible Al ----- Original Message ----- From: "Blaine Thompson" <phredd@xxxxxxxx> To: <AIRLINE@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2004 1:33 PM Subject: Sector Vol? > On Tue, 4 May 2004 AIS-AUTOMAIL@xxxxxxxxxxx wrote: > > > Departure Delays: At [ SFO ] due to [ SECTOR VOL ] between 15 minutes > > and 29 minutes and increasing. > > The FAA gizmo said "sector vol" - In relative layperson terms, what's > sector vol? > > Blaine >
